I just received confirmation that the oval will be closed for the season at 3 pm today.
Thank you for your readership and for another great season!
Conditions: 2 out of 10
Lots of gouges and rough spots on the ice, not really skate-able, a lot like ‘pond ice’. This is probably the last day.
Report from Patrick Kelly:
For an experienced skater, it is 6 out of 10–a bit soft and gouges/rough spots
For a recreational skater, 1 out of 10
Heard that the last day will be Sunday.
6 out of 10
Slightly better than yesterday, ice is a bit firmer and not as many gouges and rough spots. They are only dry-cutting the oval so don’t expect perfect conditions!
As far as we know there is 10-12 and 4-6 speed skating tomorrow and Sunday.
5 out it 10: several rough spots, corners have ruts and are quite rough.
I have not received firm confirmation of ice from ORDA–however, I spoke to someone in the events department who said they would check on it and if she didn’t call me back, then that meant there was ice. She hasn’t called me back so I am assuming there will be ice this afternoon and evening.
4-6 SPEED SKATING
7-9 PUBLIC SKATING
6 out of 10
Still quite a few “soft spots” but we’re just happy to still have ice!!
Saturday 6.5 out of 10
Ice was quite soft, several “trip spots” on the ice (really soft spots where your blade can get stuck).
Sunday: 7.5 out of 10
Crew worked on the oval and it improved a bit. Edges still very soft and still some soft spots but more solid than yesterday.
Normal Weekend schedule
10-12 and 4-6 speed skating
1-3 and 7-9 public skating
7 out of 10: Some soft spots especially by warming hut, around edges, and in the Legends of the Oval corner.
