One of my fellow local speed skaters informed me that the closure on Monday and Tuesday would be this week only, and that the regular closing days for the oval this year would be on Tuesday and Wednesday as it was last year. I will update when I see the schedule.
RATING: 8.5 out of 10. The ice on Saturday was nice, very smooth compared to Friday night. Still small gouges on corners, but nothing that would effect skaters.
The ice on Sunday was slightly snow-covered from snow being blown onto the ice…not as fast as it was Saturday, but hey, it’s outdoors!
RATING: 7 out of 10
This weekend was the marathon, but if you like sprint distances, register for the Jack Shea Sprints next weekend HERE.
Also watch for photos! I have to upload them and will do so tomorrow.
RATING (from 1 to 10): 7.5
There were some soft spots on straightaway by school side, but otherwise nice ice. There was water on top and the ice underneath was hard for the most part.
It seems that there will be a 4-6 speed skating session despite the warmer weather.
Public Skating will be cancelled.
Due to oval schedule changes, the 10k race will start at 9:30 pm on Friday.
According to ORDA, the Olympic Oval will open for speed and public skating on Wednesday December 4th. Speed skating is 4 pm-6 pm and the public session is 7 pm – 9 pm . Same schedule Thursday and Friday.
As of today at 3:30 pm, crews started flooding the oval. Keep watching for more updates
As of Monday, crews were clearing snow off the track. Here’s a picture.
Since it has snowed since Monday, no doubt they will have to clean it off again.
Hopefully the crews will begin making the ice on Friday, November 29. Stay tuned here and on our Facebook page for details.

We are fortunate to have some indoor “long blading” ice available in the Olympic Center this spring–I will be updating this site with weekly information and times.
TUESDAY APRIL 2–1980 Rink
1 pm – 2 pm
THURSDAY APRIL 4–1980 Rink
1 pm – 2 pm
Please note, this ice is for recreational “long bladers” only. There are no pads on the boards, so this for adult recreational skaters who simply want to exercise and enjoy skating indoors. Therefore, no racing or fast skating is permitted.
Cost: 1 session punch card from the Olympic Center Box Office (approximately $18)
