The oval is closed for the season–the Lake Placid Speed Skating Club thanks all skaters for a wonderful season!

Here’s the press release from ORDA: “The Olympic Speed Skating Oval is now closed for the season. There will no longer be any OUTDOOR public skating sessions available. There are INDOOR public skating sessions available Tuesday, March 12 and Wednesday, March 13 on the USA Rink at 7:45 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.Admission for Public Skating in the USA Rink will be $6.00 for adults and $4.00 for juniors and seniors. Skate rentals will be available for $3.00″

These sessions allow only figure and hockey skates, so public speed skating is closed for the season.

The oval will be closed today, Monday March 11.

However, there will be a public skating session (figure and hockey skates only) in the Olympic Center this evening, from 7:45 pm – 9: 30 pm in the US Rink.

10 am – 12 pm Speed Skating

NO SESSIONS FOR THE REST OF THE DAY

The ice is quite soft, and there are several “rough spots” on the surface.

Due to warm temperatures, the speed skating session from 4 pm – 6 pm has been cancelled.

Not only was the afternoon speed skating session cancelled, but so was the 7 pm – 9 pm public session. Keep watching for the latest updates regarding tomorrow’s schedule.

The ice was nice today, but a bit soft from the sun and warm temperatures in places. There are a few gouges on the straightaway by the high school, and the corner ice by the billboard is soft. Other than that, it was great to skate in the sunshine under blue skies!

RATING: 9.5 out of 10

Ice was excellent today…few to no imperfections, beautiful sunny day, no complaints!!

10 am – 12 pm SPEED SKATING

1 pm – 3 pm PUBLIC SKATING

4 pm – 6 pm SPEED SKATING

7 pm – 9 pm PUBLIC SKATING

The ice was excellent yesterday. The ORDA crew used the zamboni to “flood” the ice, which filled in most of the imperfections and gouges left over from last week.

Friday’s slated schedule: 

4 pm – 6 pm SPEED SKATING (speed skates only)

7 pm – 9 pm PUBLIC SKATING (hockey and figure skates only)

Today there are two sessions, as per the usual weekday schedule:

4 pm – 6 pm SPEED SKATING 

7 pm – 9 pm PUBLIC SKATING (hockey and figure skates only).

The temperatures in Lake Placid are in the low 30s, with an overcast ski and low wind chill. The ice should be decent today–watch after 6 pm for an “ice conditions report” for the speed skaters!
